Texas Tech Law Graduation Honors

Closing Letter of Intent. Students must submit their letters of intent to graduate by the following deadlines: October 15 for graduation in May or August and April 1 for graduation in December. Students enrolled in dual degree programs should inquire with the Graduate School`s Dean`s Office about degree submission requirements. Please honors.graduation@ttu.edu email for more information. According to the Faculty of Law`s Degree Requirements Policy, students must: (a) accumulate a minimum of 90 semester credit hours; (b) have a grade point average of 2,250 or higher at graduation (see Policy on Academic Standards); and (c) meet the 30-hour public service requirement. A student must satisfactorily complete all required courses, including a top-level writing requirement and 6 credits of experimental courses. Hooded ceremony. The Faculty of Law does not hold masking ceremonies until the end of the spring semester. December graduates can attend the May ceremony after graduation. August graduates can attend the May ceremony prior to graduation.

Students who are about to complete a dual degree program can only participate in the masking ceremony if completion of both degrees is expected. Questions about masking ceremonies should be directed to the Student Life Office. The Juris Doctor (J.D.) program is designed to provide general legal education. Each first-year student is enrolled in 30 semester credit hours during their first year as a law student. Students must then complete 26 hours of advanced compulsory courses during their second and third years. Fourteen of these hours must be taken in the second year. Students also choose from elective courses to complete a total of at least 90 credit hours toward graduation (56 are mandatory hours and 34 are elective hours). These electives include courses that can meet the upper-level writing requirement and the 6 credits of experimental courses. For selected first-year students who could benefit from additional instruction in legal analysis, a legal analysis course is required in the second year. For these students, the 3 credit hours for legal analysis replace 3 hours of choice (59 hours mandatory and 31 hours elective). Diplomas.

Diplomas are provided to students after all graduates have been certified as completed. Diplomas are ordered after receipt of final grades and honours are recorded in student files. Completion of a concentration program is not graded on the student`s degree. Honours for students graduating on or before August 2023The following awards are displayed on a student`s diploma and transcript based on GPA: Laude 3,200-3,399, Magna Laude 3,400-3,599, Summa Laude 3,600-4,000. The Registrar determines which students qualify for honours after the final grades are published and the alumni list is certified. Satisfaction of the single seat prohibited. The student may not use a single course to satisfy both the high school writing requirement and the experiential course requirement. If an instructor has certified that a particular course can meet both requirements, students must choose the requirements that the course will meet for their completion requirements. Prerequisites for graduation. Students are responsible for reviewing the law school`s policy on graduation requirements and their academic records prior to their final semester prior to graduation to ensure they meet the degree requirements.

Each student must meet all requirements before the degree can be awarded. Students can check their degree at any time until graduation by accessing the final audit website. A student enrolled in a dual degree program does not receive the JD degree until the requirements for both degrees are met. August 1, 2014; February 28, 2015 (revised); March 28, 2018 (revised), April 21, 2021 (revised) University applicants with a GPA of 3.9 or higher are completed summa laude; those with a GPA of 3.7 to 3.89 are rated Magna Laude; And those with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.69 are rated Laude. Graduates who earn these designations wear red cords.

You have an SAT of at least 1300 or an ACT of at least 29; Respite stories. The American Bar Association requires accredited law school students to complete their law degree no earlier than 24 months and no later than 84 months after enrolling in law school. In May and December of each year, Honors College holds a graduation ceremony. For these students, the three credit hours for legal analysis replace three elective hours (59 mandatory hours and 31 elective hours). Academic insignia. Students must order academic insignia as instructed by the Faculty of Law. Students may wear performance or identity cues, usually a string or stole, along with their academic insignia at law school hooded ceremonies. In addition, all lawyers and professors wearing balaclavas must wear badges. If a student chooses a balaclava lawyer who is not a Texas Tech law professor, the student is responsible for ensuring that the hood lawyer has appropriate badges. Request for pro bono service.

Students must complete at least 30 hours of public service. The pro bono service policy provides details on how to meet this requirement. All students take an oath of professionalism upon registration and must adhere to the standards set forth in the Texas Tech University Code of Honor and Student Code of Conduct. These codes, along with academic guidelines such as maintaining good reputation, can be found on the TTU Legal Policies and Procedures page. Honors College and the School of Law are working together on an early decision plan that allows outstanding law school applicants who are Honors College students in good standing to receive notification of their admission to law school during their third year at Texas Tech. Enrolment in law school would only occur after the student has obtained a bachelor`s degree. Have an LSAT score that puts them in the top half nationally. Texas Tech University has five university-wide honoraria: Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, Golden Key, and Omicron Delta Kappa. Members of these societies may wear their pins, medallions, strings of honour and/or stoles. Please contact the campus chapter or national organization for more information.

High-level write request. A student must complete writing work in accordance with the Policy on Graduate Writing Requirements. Compulsory curriculum. A student must successfully complete all courses mentioned in the program of study, if required. A student who fails a mandatory course must repeat that course and pass the next time it is offered. A student who does not pass a course in the first year or advanced can only repeat the course once. If another section is available, the student cannot register with the same teacher from the failed class. If a student fails the course a second time, he or she is usually expelled due to academic deficiencies, regardless of the student`s GPA. Any exception to this rule for a mandatory course must be approved by the Vice-Dean, Academic Affairs and for cause only. Prerequisites for graduation.

To be eligible for the degree, students must successfully meet the following requirements. A crucial part of a legal education is to prepare students for all aspects of their professional engagements as lawyers. As a result, all students are required to participate in the advocacy commitment to public service by completing 30 hours of pro bono legal work and community service during their school years. Texas Tech School of Law offers a variety of opportunities throughout the year to do pro bono legal work and community service for low-income and disadvantaged people in Lubbock and throughout the state. Course credits required. Students must obtain at least 90 course points 56 of the required courses and meet the academic standard required for cumulative grade point average. Students apply for the fall semester of their third year (or the fall semester of a year in which they are classified as juniors) and must have completed the LSAT by December of that year. Students who receive and accept an advance ruling must commit to enrolling in Texas Tech University School of Law and are not allowed to apply to other law schools. The admissions committee applies the same standards and procedures to early decision makers and to those reviewed through the traditional admissions process.

If a student has taken a mandatory course for a grade prior to enrolling in law school and has received a grade of B or better, the student will not receive legal courses for the course, but may not be required to repeat the course if approved by the Vice-Dean, Academic Affairs, if another course is available in the same field, which may be taken in lieu of equivalent credit hours and then become part of the required program of study of such a student in the first year.
