The Federal Trade Commission said Thursday it is suing to block Microsoft`s planned $69 billion acquisition of video game company Activision Blizzard, saying it may remove competitors for its Xbox game consoles and growing gaming subscription business. The FTC complaint points to Microsoft`s previous game acquisitions, particularly acclaimed developer Bethesda Softworks and its parent company ZeniMax, as an example of Microsoft making certain Poplar game titles exclusive, though European regulators have assured they have no intention of doing so. “Microsoft has already shown that it can and will retain content from its gaming rivals,” said Holly Vedova, director of the FTC`s Competition Bureau.
